June Favorites (All Drugstore!)

I’ve never done a monthly favorites post before, which seems criminal, so here it goes! Read more to see what I’ve been loving for the month of June!

With June coming to a close, I thought it would be appropriate to do a monthly favorites post, as one does.  All of my favorites for this month happen to be drugstore (or at least drugstore-priced), which was actually completely unplanned and something I only realized while putting this post together.

1.) Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer | $14.95

I’ve already done an entire post reviewing this product, but it’s back again because I love it so much!  I’m also reusing pictures from that post because I’m lazy.

For those who haven’t read my review (*insert extremely sad face here*), the lowdown on this bronzer is that it has ok pigmentation (not the most pigmented, but definitely buildable), has a nice, glowy finish, and feels super buttery, as the name would suggest.  It doesn’t last the longest time on me, which was one of its downfalls in my review, but with its coconut-y scent, it makes me feel like I’m buffing summer realness into my face, and who doesn’t want to feel like they’re slathering the essence of July all over their person??

All jokes aside, I’ve been really enjoying this bronzer this month because of the glow it leaves – it really makes me seem like I’ve actually gotten some sun, which I definitely haven’t, but benign deceit is apparently something I wear well!

Another plus for this product is that it sits really well on bare skin – I hate wearing foundation of any kind (both powder & liquid) and will only really wear it if I’m going to some kind of ~special event,~ so most of the time the only “face” makeup I wear on a consistent basis is my undereye concealer.  Because of this, if I ever wear highlight/blush/bronzer, it’s on bare skin, and although I’ve never really had any problems with highlight or blush on bare skin (take a shot every time I say “bare skin”), bronzer is something that I’ve noticed can potentially look kind of strange.  The majority of the problems I have with “strange” bronzer is that it can look kind of patchy without the perfect base you get from foundation, but I have no problems with this one!

~Conclusively,~ although on the pricier side for the drugstore, given that I’ve been wearing this basically every time I wear makeup, I’d say this one is well worth it!

2.) e.l.f. Cosmetics Mad for Matte 2 Eyeshadow Palette | $10.00

1a

The first time I saw KathleenLights mention this palette in her January Favorites video back in February, I knew I had to have it, but it was sold out for the longest time! Finally, I saw that it came back in stock, snatched it up real quick, and it had been waiting for me in the US by the time I returned in mid-June!

1b

One thing I really love about this palette is that it’s on the warmer, peachier side without being too peach.  Since getting the pressed eyeshadows from the Colourpop Nectar Collection, I’ve realized that while I do really enjoy peach shadows, when things are literally straight up peach I tend to shy away from them.  Instead, I much prefer more neutral peaches, such as the shadows found in this e.l.f. palette, because they seem much more “natural” somehow, although tbh if my eyelids are any tint of peach whatsoever there ain’t nothing really natural about that to begin with, but I digress.

Although these shadows don’t look too pigmented when swatched on the arm, they perform really well using an actual brush on the eyes.  They feel soft to the touch and not powdery at all and blend easily using a fluffy brush.

Because I’m a creature of habit, I tend to stick more toward “the spice is right” section of shadows, as e.l.f. has dubbed them, but it’s nice that this palette has darker shades that are actually decently pigmented because it makes it so much more versatile.  My personal favorite shadow is the third one from the left because it reminds me of Salted Caramel from the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette, which, for the umpteenth time,  is my all-time favorite eyeshadow.  The reason why I was so drawn to this palette in the first place is because in her video, Kathleen says that it’s actually the second color from the left that reminds her of her favorite shadow from the palette, which she never actually specifies and I’m apparently not enough of a fan to know off the top of my head.

I’ve been really like this palette this month because it’s sleek, the warmer colors are perfect for summer, and it’s super quick and easy to use if I want something on my eyes, but don’t really want to think too much about it.  Plus, the third shadow from the left is a great transition shade for any kind of eye look, and since I left my Chocolate Bar Palette in Italy (I was too afraid to travel with it!!), it’s been a great backup.  If you’re in the market for an affordable matte palette, I’d say this one is worth checking out!

3.) Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder – Lilac to Reality | $4.99

I’m not really a ~highlighter gal,~ but this highlighter looked too cool to pass up.  Wet n Wild has been coming out with some really cool limited edition products lately, so when I saw this one come out as part of their “Queen of My Heart” collection for spring, I was intrigued by how unique it was.

2d

When doing a straight swatch on the arm, it looks kind of intimidating to one who isn’t that adventurous when it comes to highlighter (aka me) – it’s an icy, silvery lilac color, which I wasn’t really sure would flatter anybody but the tin man at first.

However, once applied with a brush, that straight up lilac color basically goes away and leaves a really pretty shine.  I wouldn’t say this highlight is glittery or glowy, but that it’s almost metallic-looking, which actually looks really nice.

4 all my fanz on SnapChat!!

One of the reasons I’ve been liking this for June is because of how subtle it is when used with a fan brush – it’s super easy to slap on because it kind of “blends” itself and I don’t really have to worry about going overboard.  And it’s super fun to just watch on a brush.

4.) Colourpop Ultra Blotted Lip – Doozy | $6.00

4a

Because it would be a farce for me to do a favorites post without mentioning at least one lip product, here’s me hitting my quota for the month.  This Ultra Blotted Lip by Colourpop had me a little skeptical at first, ngl – when it comes to lipstick, I’m all about opacity and color payoff, so to hear that Colourpop came out with a product “for that soft, diffused just-blotted look, our medium coverage liquid lipstick dries matte, doesn’t budge, and feels soft and comfy on the lips” seemed kind of like… fake news.

giphy10

BUT, being the open-minded gal that I am, I decided I had to try it out before I completely threw shade at it.  I chose Doozy because tbh it was the only one not sold out at the time Colourpop was having a sale and the whole “this warm rose is outstanding and one of a kind” tagline Colourpop gave it was calling to me.

L: 2 swipes of product; R: 1 swipe of product

Unsurprisingly, this is pretty sheer, just as Colourpop said it would be, and living in the day and age I am, it was pleasant to hear that something that was originally explained clearly and concisely actually turned out to be what was promised, but I’m not here to talk politics or anything, so let’s continue on with the lipstick.

giphy11

This formula is really strange to me – I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn’t this.  Although it looks kind of gel-like in the swatches, it’s actually not.  It’s almost a “watered down” consistency, like somebody took the formula of one of Colourpop’s liquid lipsticks and literally just thinned it out, which might actually just be what Colourpop did, but idk I’m no scientist. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

On me, I would call this a “my lips but better” shade, but what’s really interesting about this product is that it dries completely matte, which I also wasn’t expecting.  Honestly, I wanted to hate this product at first because it’s basically the epitome of everything I’m against as a person (aka a sheer lip look), but I actually ended up really loving it.  It’s great for days when you want to do an ACTUAL no makeup makeup look – I’m not talking about one of those looks on YouTube where they end up using hundreds of products to create the illusion of wearing no makeup (although I’m not against that kind of look), I’m talking about literally you throw on some mascara and maybe some highlighter and a touch of bronzer before slapping something on your lips and calling it a day.

I really like this shade because I feel like it’s super flattering, brightens up my face somehow, and with one coat, although it’s matte, it feels like you literally have nothing on.  You can build it up a bit, but you need to work quickly, because I find that once it dries, you can’t really layer it.  In the swatches above with 2 coats, you can see that I waited too long – if you try to layer another coat on top of an already dry first coat, the second layer tends to “remove” what’s underneath it and ends up “pooling” towards the edges of your lips, leaving what looks like a darker lip liner.  In general, the product tends to do the pooling thing no matter what coat you’re on because it’s so thin and sheer, but this problem is easy to address when it’s still wet because all you have to do is take your finger and “blot” it away (I see what you did there, Colourpop).

5.) Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara – $8.99

Oops… just realized I took a pic of the non-English side #multicultural

Going off my previous ~theme~ of an actual “no makeup makeup look” (because as a fan of makeup I acknowledge that sometimes it’s too damn hot to bother), this has been my favorite mascara for a multitude of reasons…

3b

First of all, I have sad, straight lashes that barely hold a curl, so when it comes to mascara, waterproof is my best bet for this job.  I particularly like this mascara because of the wand – not only does the formula ensure that my lashes stay curled after I curl them, but this wand actually fans them out a bit so they look nice and fully curled without clumping up!

The pictures above include 2 coats of mascara (pls disregard my dark circles I literally have nothing else but mascara on whoops!), and you can see that my lashes are still curled, nicely fanned out, and not clumpy, which are all big pluses to me.  This mascara also gets another star for the fact that it looks exactly the same at the end of the day as it did at the beginning of the day, meaning that it somehow magically holds the same curl on my lashes all day without flaking or dropping!

Overall, this mascara is some Good Stuff.  The wand is easy to use and even though I’m a complete disaster when it comes to doing things gracefully, I manage to not get this mascara everywhere.  Also, as I said before, it holds a curl.  That’s my main point.

6.) KissMe Liquid Lipstick – Cosmo | *$6.66

5a.png

As a lover of lipstick, I’m surprised that I didn’t previously have any kind of lipstick subscription, but hey, now I do!

Back in May, I saw Shaaanxo’s video about KissMe Liquid Lipsticks, which is a subscription service through LiveGlam.  Basically, you get 3 liquid lipsticks every month for $19.99 (free shipping if you’re in the US!), and since I used Shan’s code in May, I ended up getting a 4th liquid lipstick for free!  Each month you rack up 100 points, which can be redeemed for various rewards.

The reason why put a little asterisk next to the price above is that technically you have to pay $19.99 for the entire “box,” so that $6.66 price is just the overall price divided by 3 to get the price of the single lipstick.  And ok – this is not ~technically~ drugstore, but the price is drugstore, so I still included it!  I really like the formula of these in general because they’re super opaque on one swipe, really long-lasting, and they’re lightweight and not at all drying!

Hands-down, my all-time favorite is the color above, which is called “Cosmo” – it’s a super bright red orange, which is my favorite kind of color to wear in general.  I’ve been wearing this basically non-stop this month, which is really saying something since I don’t tend to like to repeat lipsticks, but this color is just that pretty!

If you’re curious, here’s the rest of the shades I got in May below!

PS: I’m not sponsored by KissMe or affiliated with them in any way, BUT, if you’re interested at all, you can use my ~unique link~ and we both get 200 points!

Also, I’m not sure if this still works, but I used the code “shaaanxo” to get that 4th free lipstick I already mentioned, so maybe you can still use it to get a 4th free for this month??
